Hi.. Here’s my Slice of Life Recount. Enjoy! :

The Tower of Doom
By Fariha Ahmed

The broad tower smirks at me as I step inside, trembling. Questions run through my mind; how high was it? Could I get hurt? How will I feel when I reach the top? Would I reach the top? The wooden floorboard creaks, making me tense and the chirps of birds follow me like a swarm of wasps as I take my second step towards the ladder that seems to be miles away.

I feel a rush of adrenaline as I touch the harsh wooden ladder, and the harness around my waist is a harness tightening with every step I take. I start to climb up several flights of stairs and ladders rapidly.

I gasp for air as I finish climbing the fifth set of stairs. My heart is beating at the speed of light and I feel as if I’m about to explode. I look towards the ladder above me, ‘Just 2 more floors’ I whisper to myself. I take a few deep breaths and clear my mind. I stand up with quivering legs, but climb up the next flight like an excited monkey.

As I reach the last ladder I see prominent trees waving at me like encouraging children through gaps in the walls. I hear comforting voices coming from the peak of the tower, and as I stick my head out the top, the smell of fresh air pierces my nose. An instructor holding a rope nods at me, and the lump at the back of my throat grows bigger and bigger as I realise it’s time for me to climb down the dreadful, horrifying, terrible... ABSEILING TOWER!
